New leaders have been hired at Dos Rios Elementary School.
At its Monday, Feb. 22 meeting, the Board of Education approved the appointment of Matt Thompson as the principal at Dos Rios. He replaces Dos Rios Principal Lydia Bates, who is retiring at the end of the school year. Thompson will begin in the new position in July 2016.
Matt Thompson Thompson is currently the Assistant Principal at Dos Rios Elementary School. Before joining District 6, he was an assistant principal and school leader in Weld County School District RE-3J for 6 years. Matt earned his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Northern Colorado and is currently pursuing his Doctor of Education Degree in Curriculum, Instruction, Innovation, and Change, at the University of Northern Colorado. In his current work at Dos Rios, he leads the Positive Behavior Committee and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Programs, while he serves as the liaison between the school and the supporting community organizations. Thompson was also an 8th grade English teacher at Weld Central Junior High.
"It is an honor to be selected to continue to serve the students, staff and families of Dos Rios,"; Thompson said. "We are thoroughly excited to be in a position to continue in the great work we have already begun, including becoming an International Baccalaureate World School."

We are extremely pleased to welcome the addition of Mrs. Elizabeth Urich as Assistant Principal at Dos Rios for the 2016-2017 school year! Mrs. Urich will replace Mr. Thompson when he assumes the role of Principal.

Urich earned her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. Before joining Dos Rios, Mrs. Urich most recently taught 4th grade at McAuliffe Elementary, serving previously at Scott Elementary and Cameron Elementary.  She is a thoughtful leader who brings great strength to the position of Assistant Principal in the areas of communication, collaboration, instructional leadership and the data team process. She is also a certified math demonstration teacher for District Six.

Urich is also familiar with the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate, for which Dos Rios is currently a candidate school, seeking authorization in spring 2017.

I am thrilled to become part of the learning community at Dos Rios Elementary! With 13 years of public educational experience within Greeley/Evans School District Six, I am passionate about creating successful learning and teaching environments. I look forward to learning and growing with all of you!”
